Making Contact

Almost a year ago, I blogged about the new pair of eyeglasses I got after my consultation with our company optometrist. Back then, I was only 'forced' to see her as part of our annual medical examination. This year, I was so looking forward to it since I've been wanting to have an excuse to get a new pair of spectacles.

As it turned out, I did not come out with a new pair of glasses but with my first set of contact lenses! Quite honestly, I've been thinking of getting one since the time I started having vision problems. Unfortunately, at that time, there were no available contacts for astigmatic people. Until toric lenses came out but then, I was no longer interested.

Well, after checking out the available new frames from the optometrist that weren't any good, I had to choose between sticking to my present glasses or graduating to wearing contacts. Obviously, I chose the latter and am now starting to get used to it.

I guess this is just in time for our weekend plans to finally get to see the much-awaited Superman Returns. Now, there'd be no glass frame to distract me from gawking over that super guy Brandon... Whew!

here I am, like a kid out of school,
holding hands with a god, I'm a fool;
when you look at me, quivering
like a little girl, shivering...

For Better, For Good

As what most may realize by now, Father's Day is coming (actually, it's this Sunday June 18) as seen on numerous TV plugs, commercials and billboards all over paying tribute to fathers all over the world.

With these, I can't help but think back on previous Father's Days when I always had a difficulty coming up with a nice and appropriate gift for my father. It was really quite silly since any gift I gave him elicited pretty much the same reaction which was of an almost-expressionless thank you. Still, I remember always feeling good to visit Papa on this special day because I knew that despite his seeming lack of enthusiasm, he was happy to see me.

Sadly this year, it will be the first time I'll observe the occassion without my father. And much like what I have done lately on special occassions (Christmas, his birthday, my birthday & Mother's Day), I will just pay my respects to my much-missed father by going to the cemetery and offering flowers and prayers.

I also wish to offer a few lines taken from a song called For Good from the Broadway musical Wicked that I've been listening to lately. These lines somehow capture how I feel inside when I think about not only of Papa but Mama as well...

It well maybe
That we will never meet again in this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart...

Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you,
I've been changed for good...

Sweeter In The End

Its arrival was rather uneventful and not much buzz was heard nor felt, which is uncharacteristic of a Madonna video. But finally, the Get Together music video has arrived and I gotta say, the wait was quite worth it...

much thanks to MadonnaNation for the video link

Some of my friends (or at least one of them) weren't quite impressed. But in my opinion, the video was creatively made. Like what MadonnaNation (where I got this video) aptly observed, it's like an Andy Warhol painting come to life.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
It's an illusion, I don't care...

A MAD ReCOVERy

I have just gotten a copy of the June 2006 issue of W Magazine with the one and only Madonna on the cover. Less than a year after her much-publicized unfortunate horse-riding mishap (and after bouncing back from the American Life debacle via Confessions on a Dancefloor), she's back on the saddle again..., and how!

The 58-page Steven Klein photo portfolio showcases Madonna in different poses with and around horses proving that there was no love lost between them. The images are definitely much more glamorous and dreamy than Madge's and Klein's first W collaboration in 2003, some of which have been used for the promotions for her current venue-filling The Confessions Tour.

If it takes falling off a horse to look this good, I'd let gravity do its thing!

And if I fall, I get up again...
